newer versions of Windows. The release was planned in April 1984. But in January
1984 the Macintosh was released and Bill Gates wanted that Windows should look like
the Mac OS but it should run on many computers unlike Mac OS which only runs on a
special PC. So the programmers of Microsoft had to create dozens of new drivers for
the different systems on the marked. This moved the release date to November 1985.
Because of that Windows 1.0 was a failure. Many companies which wanted to create
programs for Windows lost the trust to Microsoft by reason of the delayed release
date.
Windows 2.xx (1987)
In the year 1987 a new version of Microsoft’s
operation system was released. Windows 2
got
a
new
window
manager
named
“Presentation Manager” which was taken
over from OS/2 another OS by IBM and
Microsoft. The innovation was that you could
move and resize the windows as you like.
They also were allowed to float on top of each
other.
Excel a spreadsheet program was bundled
with Windows 2. Excel previously only existed
for the Macintosh. This mainly increased the
success of this operation system.
