Microsoft operation systems
MS-DOS (1981-2000)
At the beginning MS-DOS was
the standard OS for IBM PCs. At
this time it had the name PC-
DOS. It had just a simple text
interface
to
run
different
commands. You had to enter
the
commands
with
the
keyboard because there was no
mouse. You had no windows and it was not possible to run more than one application
at time. Later on when Windows was released it was working in the background of
Windows 1-3, 95, 98 and Millennium Edition. In Windows 1-3 MS-DOS had to be
installed separately.
Windows 1.0x (1985)
Bill Gates wanted to create a
graphical interface for MS-DOS
useable with a mouse. Its first
name was “Interface Manager” but
it was changed to “Windows”. You
were able to run more than one
program simultaneous. This means
you had not to close a program like
in DOS when you wanted to work
with another program. You could
minimize programs which were not
in use into a taskbar. All programs
which had not the focus were
frozen till you wanted to use them
again. Windows could be positioned side by side and not on top of each other like in
