Bill Gates
Biography
Bill Gates is the founder and was the chairman of the
Microsoft Corporation which is a worldwide leading
software and service company.
He was born at the end of October 1955 (28
th
October
1955) and has got two sisters. Their dead mother was
a schoolteacher at the “University of Washington
regent”
and
chairwoman
of
“United
Way
International”. Their father was an attorney in Seattle.
Both had much money.
First Bill Gates visited the public elementary school.
But he was very intelligent and his passion was mathematic. To bring forward his
talents he attended the private “Lakeside School” where he his enthusiasm for
computers began. There Bill Gates met his school friend and his later partner Paul
Allen. Together they started programming in “BASIC” (Beginner’s All-purpose Symbolic
Instruction Code) with the school’s computer. They created “Trafo-O-Data” a program
to measure traffic streams for the “Computer Center Corporation”. After that they
founded the “Lakeside Programming Group”.
Then Bill Gates started studying law at the Harvard University. There he developed a
version of the programming language “BASIC” for the first microprocessor “MITS
Altair”. After that he started to develop other programs. At the beginning Bill Gates
and some friends of him were working in a garage to enhance the existing Altair
computer. Later on in 1975 they founded “Microsoft” and moved together with 16
employees to Seattle. Bill Gates had the idea that computers would increase the
standard of life and so he started to develop software for home users.
In 1980 IBM needed an operation system for their new 16bit computers but the
partner “Digital Research, which had developed “CP/M” an 8bit OS (The existing
standard), was not fast enough to develop a 16bit OS. Then Microsoft which previously
only worked at the programming language “BASIC” was asked to create such an OS for
IBM. Because of that Bill Gates spotted the operation system “SCP-DOS” (Seattle
