function were the “aliases” a similar function which is also included in newer versions
of Windows named “shortcuts”. With this you were able to create an alias and run the

Mac OS 8.x (1997)
Mac OS 8 was planned as Mac
OS 7.7 but it was renamed to
make the contracts to third
party
manufactures
of
Macintosh
clones,
which
allowed them to create their
own Macs, unusable.
Shortly after the release of
Mac OS 8 Steve Jobs was back
as CEO at Apple because his
company “NeXT” was bought by Apple. It had a redesigned GUI (Graphical User
Interface) which allowed themes or skins to change the look of Mac OS. Apple sold
Mac OS 8 more than 1 million times in the first two weeks and three million times
within six months. Mac OS 8.1 brought the new Hierarchical File System Plus (HSF+)
which removed many limitations of the previous HSF file system.
Mac OS 9 (1999)
Mac OS 9 had many improvements to OS
8.1 such as a large list of USB drivers or
better memory management. It got a
simple multi-user support and provided
on-the-fly encryption of the hard disk.

network features. Mac OS 9 had many
