Windows” it allowed windows floating on top of each others just from the beginning.
Like today it had included a calculator, a puzzle and some other small tools and games.
To teach users the mouse which was unfamiliar for computer users at this time Apple
included a separate tutorial disk with the learn program “Mousing Around” (Later
renamed to “Mac Basics”. But the OS had many teething problems such a missing
shutdown menu to power of the computer. If you wanted to copy a disk you had swap
the source and destination disc several time because it had to copy many chunks of
data to due limited
memory of the Apple
computer.
Also
the
tutorial disk was not
compatible with System
1.0. Only an update fixed
that issue. You could not
create folders in folder
because the Macintosh
File System (MFS) didn’t
support it. If you wanted to create a new folder you had to rename the existing “Empty
Folder” which was recreated afterwards. Because of these problems System 1.1 had
been released less than four month later to decrease the start-up time and the disk
swaps at copying. Also a feature was implanted that you could run programs at the
system start-up automatically.
System 2.x (1985)
The “Finder” (a file explorer like “Windows Explorer”) was mainly improved. New
folders could be created with a menu and without renaming an existing dir. Also new
was the “List” view of the Finder. It displayed icons in front of each file depending on
its file type. Apple lost his co-founder Steve Jobs around the release of System 2.1.
