abandoned from Apple and founded with six other Apple workers the firm “NeXT”.
Besides Jobs bought a part of Lucasfilm named “Lucasfilm Graphics Groups” and
renamed it into Pixar. Pixar produced 3d graphics and software for create these.
Because he was more interested into NeXT he left Pixar to itself. With NeXT Jobs
wanted to create a computer which was more powerful than all other Apple
computers. Although the press was impressed by the computers in 1988 and NeXT got
popular for its innovative products they had no success and had to release the half of
his employees. Therefore Steve Jobs restructured NeXT and started developing the OS
“NeXTStep” and the internet developing tool “WebObjects”. Till 1991 Pixar created
several animated short films and then Disney wanted the firm to produce an animated
film for them. In 1995 Pixar and Disney released the computer animated film “Toy
Story” and Steve Jobs made a lot of money just by owning Pixar (Later on in 2006
Disney bought Pixar for 7.4 billion dollar). The OS NeXTStep was revolutionary but
Windows had the worldwide leading position of operation system. In 1996 Apple
bought NeXT for over 400 million dollar and used NeXTStep to develop their Macintosh
OS. So Steve Jobs was back in Apple the company he founded 20 years ago. In the time
without Jobs it was not very successful. In 1997 Steve Jobs got the position of the CEO
to bring Apple back to the green numbers. Till today Apple offered many innovative
products like computers for home use, Laptops (for example the “MacBook”), the iPod
and many software products like the “Mac-OS-X” operation system or “iTunes” with
the build in music store.
