Windows 95/95A (1995/1996)
Windows 95 was very successful: In the first three
month 45 million pieces were sold. It was the first
operation system by Microsoft which had MS-DOS
included and didn’t need a separate installation of
DOS. It was a 16/32 bit operation system and was
much faster than Windows 3.11 and all previous
versions. It had a completely new user interface.
It detected the most of the hardware and
installed the drivers automatically (Called “Plug &
Play”). It was able handle long file names (All
previous versions cut them down to 11
characters). Also new was the “Recycle Bin”. Files
which were deleted were first placed there and
could be recovered. Windows 95 got a new file
manager called “Windows Explorer” which showed all directories in a tree structure.
